Intensive Care Units are basically organ-support units. They support Ventilation with Mechanical Ventilation, Cardiac failure with Inopressors and IABP, Renal failure with Renal Replacement Therapy and other organ-related ailments and failures with such similar organ supports. Whilst all these happen, it cannot be denied that, many a time, we tend to forget GI failure with Nutritional support. Clinical Nutrition, which could be a game-changer in such scenarios, is but still a development science. It however cannot be denied that it is an oft-neglected science by Physicians!
It is inarguable that Intensivists are the right Physicians to take care of this support as a whole! They are the right specialists to deliver Enteral (RN) and Parenteral (TPN/SPN) support to critically ill patients. Much has evolved in the starvation protocols and the nutritional support in the perioperative care of our surgical patients. ERAS protocols are over 15 years old whilst there exist quite a few new developments in this field to enhance the chances and speed of recovery of our surgical patients.
This online course aims to introduce this science of Clinical Nutrition to budding intensivists already practicing this art of Clinical Nutrition. At the end of this course you would be equipped with the basics as well as the advanced aspects of TPN.
